Question: Do you feel backup segmentation is still the best defense against ransomware?
It's certainly ONE OF the best defenses against ransomware, but air-gapped backups are not really a "defense," but rather a tool for recovery. Religious patch management, implementing MFA everywhere possible, network segmentation, monitoring logs from many different sources (SIEM), and implementing next-gen anti-virus with scripting control (like Carbon Black or Cylance) are your best bets to prevent or detect ransomware before it gets on your network or spreads.
