Chad Knutson and Jon Waldman Break Down Fighting AI with AI on Investing.com

The volume of patches and mandatory software updates hitting security teams has climbed sharply over the past year, and the pressure behind that climb is shifting. AI now sits on both sides of the security equation, shaping how attacks are built and how quickly defenders can respond. In a new feature for Investing.com, SBS CyberSecurity CEO and Co-Founder Chad Knutson and President and Co-Founder Jon Waldman explain what that change looks like from the defender's seat and why readiness now matters as much as adoption.

Knutson noted that the central problem is a mismatch in tempo between attackers and the organizations defending against them.

"Attackers are operating at machine speed while many organizations are still responding at human speed," he said.

Much of that activity is hard to see, he explained, because it is built to blend into normal system behavior, which makes cybercriminals' use of AI easy to underestimate.

Waldman noted that when AI goes wrong, the technology itself is rarely the real problem.

"In nearly every instance where AI has caused problems, it is not because the AI was acting maliciously," he said. "It is because it had access to something it should not have had."

A central theme of the feature was the distinction between adoption and readiness. Waldman framed AI-enabled organizations as those that simply have the tools, while AI-ready organizations pair them with aligned leadership, trusted data, and clearly defined risk boundaries. Knutson added that shadow AI is already in motion within most organizations, turning governance from a compliance exercise into an operational priority.

For organizations working to close the gap between being AI-enabled and AI-ready, SBS offers a Virtual Chief AI Officer, a service that provides dedicated AI governance guidance to help leaders set policy, protect the data their tools depend on, and define clear risk boundaries.
