SBS Institute Webinar to Examine AI's Shift from Workplace Tool to Teammate

SBS Institute: AI That Acts — The Next Phase of AI | SBS
3:00

MADISON, S.D., May 26, 2026 — AI adoption inside regulated organizations is outpacing the policies, audit practices, and oversight structures meant to govern it. As models become capable of taking action, generating production code, and operating inside real workflows, security and risk teams are being asked to weigh in on tools that don't fit neatly into existing control frameworks.

To help close that gap, the SBS Institute, the education arm of SBS CyberSecurity, will host AI That Acts — Inside the Next Phase of AI, a 90-minute webinar on June 3, 2026. The session examines what's changing inside today's most capable AI models, including tools such as Claude Cowork, Claude Code, and the latest ChatGPT releases, and is built for financial institution professionals, security practitioners, and risk and compliance leaders who need a working understanding of where AI is heading.

The session will be led by Hunter Cockrell, principal network security engineer at SBS.

"Our goal at the SBS Institute has always been to make sure technology, security, and risk professionals aren't learning about technology shifts after they've already happened," said Jon Waldman, president and co-founder of SBS. "AI is moving faster than any technology cycle we've ever experienced, and this webinar is built to give attendees a clear, working understanding of where things stand and how AI is changing business today."

Most existing AI use policies were written for an earlier generation of tools, when models retrieved information rather than acted on it. The session covers what's changed and where new oversight questions are emerging, including:

  • Differentiating traditional AI tools from emerging AI coworker models
  • Recognizing code-generating and reasoning-driven AI capabilities
  • Identifying new control gaps introduced by advanced AI models
  • Evaluating governance implications for security and risk teams
  • Anticipating emerging risks tied to AI-enabled decision-making

"We're watching AI cross a real threshold," Waldman said. "Models that used to simply retrieve information now take actions, write code, and influence decisions in ways that act a lot more like a coworker than a piece of software. That changes the threat model, the control environment, and the questions auditors are going to start asking."

Attendees will leave with a working framework for distinguishing AI tools from AI coworkers, concrete examples of where new control gaps are appearing, and practical guidance for governance and safe adoption.

AI That Acts — Inside the Next Phase of AI runs from 2:00 to 3:30 PM CT on June 3, 2026. Registration is $179 for SBS Institute members and $199 for nonmembers. It includes 1.5 CPE credits and access to the session recording. Sign up via the SBS Institute. Registrants who cannot attend live will still receive the full recording.
