NIST has released a new Special Publication (SP) series 1800 “Cybersecurity Practice Guides.” NIST stated that the “new SP 1800s target specific cybersecurity challenges in the public and private sectors; practical, user-friendly guides to facilitate adoption of standards-based approaches to cybersecurity.”
FIRST NIST IT SERIES RELEASED IN 25 YEARS!
Last time we had a new series for IT was in 1990, that's 25 years ago! In the past 30 days there has been significant activity around cybersecurity between NIST and FFIEC. This should indicate the continued energy behind cybersecurity standards and expectations in all critical infrastructures for our country, including financial services. I want to continue to encourage financial institutions to complete the FFIEC Cybersecurity Assessment and begin working towards building a governance program around Cybersecurity with Policy and Auditing programs. Risk Assessment, in conjunction with Policy and Auditing components will improve cybersecurity preparedness and demonstrate to regulators your financial institution can manage information security.
