{Press Release} SBS CyberSecurity Announces the Passing of Chairman and CEO

MADISON, S.D. (January 13, 2021) –  Aaron Gamewell, Chairman and CEO of SBS CyberSecurity, passed away Wednesday, January 13th, 2021 in his hometown of Little Rock, Arkansas after a courageous battle with cancer.

Gamewell joined the company in December of 2015 as President and COO and quickly proved to be a successful and well-respected business leader for the organization. In 2018, he was promoted to Chairman and CEO.

During his time at SBS CyberSecurity, the company doubled its revenue and expanded its reach nationally, while consistently leading new innovations in products and services. Not only did he guide the business to new heights, he also helped build SBS’s reputation as a well-known cybersecurity employer and excellent place to work, serving as a mentor to countless employees himself.

Before joining SBS CyberSecurity, Gamewell had 21 years of experience in banking and business operations. He worked in Arkansas for multiple banks until 2008, when he began a consulting practice for start-ups and venture capital groups. He led several businesses in Arkansas to maximize the efficiency of their operations to become high-functioning, successful ventures. In 2012, he accepted a position as EVP and COO of the Arkansas Bankers Association, a position he held until joining SBS in 2015.

“When Aaron started at SBS, he asked us to trust him. At the time, he meant as a business leader, but over the years our trust of Aaron has gone so much farther,” said Chad Knutson, the current president and CISO of SBS CyberSecurity. “Aaron was a beloved friend and mentor to so many. We got to see him as an excellent father, confidant, advisor and role model. Although we hoped to have him with us for much longer, we are so incredibly lucky to have known him for as long as we did.”

Honey Shelton, who has been involved with the SBS team since 2015, was named CEO in the fall of 2020.

“I have had the pleasure of knowing and working alongside Aaron and SBS for several years and couldn't be more proud of where his leadership has taken the company,” said Shelton. “We will continue to honor Aaron's legacy by leaning on the core values of passion, compassion, and desire that he personally lived by and incorporated as the foundation of the company.”

Outside of the office, Gamewell dedicated his life to encouraging others to enter the world of cybersecurity. In 2018, SBS and the Gamewell family created an endowed scholarship for Dakota State University cybersecurity majors through the CybHER program to encourage diversity in the field. In addition, he and his wife, René, have served as volunteers and event chairs for CARTI Cancer Center in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Gamewell touched the lives of many in and out of the cybersecurity industry and will be remembered as a beloved leader, mobilizer, and visionary.

In lieu of flowers, the Gamewell family has asked for donations to be made to one of the following organizations Aaron cherished most. Information can be found below.
